At the recent Summit Forum for the Development of Foreign Enterprises in China, Xinhua.net and Business School of Central University of Finance and Economics jointly issued the 2015 Competitiveness Index Report of Foreign Enterprises in China. ABB was awarded “2015 Top 10 Competitive Foreign Enterprises in China” and held a leading position in marketing competitiveness, strategic competitiveness and localization competitiveness, demonstrating the company’s impeccable strength in the market.
The forum and report is aimed to deepen the understanding of multinationals on the present and future of China’s economy, opportunities and challenges in the market, and to improve their market competiveness in China. The ranking is identified according to data from the China Economic Yearbook, Oriana, online data and market research, and based on a comprehensive competitiveness analysis of 86 foreign companies in China in terms of finance, marketing, operations, human resources, technology and innovation, social responsibility and global presence.
According to the report, ABB is the third most competitive foreign enterprise in China and No.1 in strategic competitiveness. In 2015, in line with the company’s Next Level strategy, ABB expanded its presence in central and western China, and identified Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan and Xinjiang as the key provinces for the company’s in-depth western development. The newly established industrial robot company in Zhuhai has further consolidated ABB’s advantages in east China and coastal areas. ABB was also committed to promoting local technology R&D and helping customers achieve sustainable value creation. For example, ABB has launched a series of innovative products such as YuMi— the world’s first truly collaborative dual-arm robot, and the environmentally-friendly Safe Air gas-insulated ring main unit.
In the field of utilities, ABB actively participated in the construction of three ±800kV UHVDC power transmission links— Lingzhou-Shaoxing, Jiuquan-Hunan and Shanxi-Nanjing. ABB provided key equipments and technologies, including converter transformers and parts, high-voltage switchgears, to support the long-distance and low-loss transmission of power developed in central and western regions in China, to meet the huge demand for electricity in eastern China. To date, ABB has been engaged in 22 of China’s 30 HVDC projects. Meanwhile, in support of China’s strong and smart grid, ABB is also actively involved in the construction of new-generation smart substations and development of renewable energy.
In the industry sector, ABB continued to develop and provide industrial robots and other smart technologies in 2015 to support customers such as Changan Ford and Gree to improve productivity and competitiveness, and to stay a step ahead of others in industrial upgrading and transformation. ABB’s drives, energy-efficient motors and turbochargers have helped Chinese customers improve performance while lowering the impact on the environment, making it possible to strike a balance between economic growth and environmental protection. For example, ABB’s energy-efficiency motors have saved over 24 billion kWh of electricity for Chinese customers from all industries, equivalent to the annual electricity demand of 50 million people, calculated according to average domestic electricity consumption in China.
In the field of transport and infrastructure, ABB not only continued its efforts to the construction of high speed railway lines, but also provided reliable electrical equipments for Shenzhen Metro Line 7, Beijing Metro Line 16, Changsha Metro Line 2 extension, Ningbo Metro Line 2 and Shanghai Shentong Metro lines, to promote the development of rail transits along with China’s new urbanization. In data centers, ABB has provided products and technologies to Tianjin Saide data center, Huawei Langfang cloud data center and other large domestic data centers, ensuring their safe, efficient and reliable operation. ABB’s smart home system is also widely used by more Chinese families, bringing users a greener, smarter and more convenient life.
